THE STARTING POINTNot a bunker.
A better-prepared home.

REAL HOMES. REAL LIFE.

It’s not just the dark.
It’s what comes next.

Would you know where the torch is, how to check on an older relative, or what your family could eat without cooking? And if nobody could tell you when services would return, what would you do next?

This UK-focused guide helps you make those decisions while you have time, light and a clear head—even if you live in a small flat or need to keep costs down.

When the power goes offLight, warmth and the things that need charging.
When everyday services stopWater, usable food and the basics of home life.
When you can’t get throughInformation, backup contacts and a shared plan.

WHAT WOULD
YOU DO FIRST?

No predictions or scare tactics. Just realistic situations people worry about, and a second plan for each.

The whole street
goes dark.

Could everyone find a working torch? What needs charging before your batteries run low?

Start with the essentials

Someone you love
is on their own.

Who checks in? What support is agreed? What changes when someone’s daily care needs power?

Plan around your people

Your phone has
nothing to connect to.

Could you find information, reach your contacts another way, or follow the plan you’ve already agreed?

Have more than one way

LESS GUESSWORK.
MORE PREPARATION.

Simple principles that run through every chapter.

01

Start where you are.

Start with what you own. You don't need a costly shopping spree.

02

Make the plan together.

Agree who does what. Don’t leave it to guesswork.

03

Put people first.

Build around access, care and everyday routines.

04

Have a second way.

Think beyond one device, one contact or one connection.

05

Keep it within reach.

A simple plan you can find beats a perfect one you can’t.

NO ONE LEFT BEHIND

NO ONE
LEFT BEHIND.

Good preparation doesn’t assume everyone can carry heavy water bottles, walk downstairs or use a smartphone.

Start with what each person needs, the routines that matter and the help they choose. Then plan together.

THE POINT ISN’T MORE STUFF

The best time to work it out?
Before you have to.

The guide won’t charge your phone or fill your cupboard. What it can do is help you decide what matters, spot the gaps and make a plan the people around you understand.

That is the difference between collecting information and being able to use it.

Practical, not performative.

Everyday preparation, clear checklists and sensible decisions. No bunker required.

People before products.

Start with your home, your circumstances and the people who rely on you.

Independent, with sources.

UK-focused writing with linked public guidance. Not an official government publication.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
get started.

Clear answers. No fine-print surprises.

Prefer to look inside?
What exactly is included?

The proposed complete pack brings together the 55-page illustrated PDF, the separately laid-out 82-page large-print PDF, the 12-page A4 workbook with eleven planning sheets, and an offline HTML reading edition. There is one price for the pack, not a subscription.

Is this a printed book or a physical emergency kit?

It is a digital product. Book and device mockups show how the files can look when printed or read on a screen. No printed book, equipment, radio, water or other physical supplies are included.

Can I use it without the internet?

The downloaded PDFs and offline HTML edition can be read without an internet connection on a suitable powered device. You can also print the workbook and key pages. Links to external services still need connectivity, so keep important contacts on paper.

Is it suitable if I have never prepared before?

Yes. It starts with everyday household needs rather than specialist gear. You can read it a chapter at a time, check what you already have and work through the planning sheets at your own pace.

What about disabilities, older relatives and children?

These are central to the guide. It includes support planning, access needs, backup carers, children, babies, pets and assistance animals. The large-print version and offline reading edition are included. Individual medical and equipment plans still need advice from the relevant professionals.

Why the first 72 hours?

Three days gives you a manageable starting point for planning. It does not predict when a disruption will happen, promise that help will take three days or suggest that everything returns to normal on day four. Some needs require help immediately; some disruptions last longer.

Is this official government advice?

UKPrepKit is an independent publishing project, not an emergency service or a government-endorsed product. The guide links to public information from official services. Official incident instructions and professional advice take priority.

Can I buy it on this page today?

Not yet. This is the launch-page preview and the book is a first editorial draft. The purchase button shows the proposed pack without collecting payment. Checkout, delivery, customer contact details and publication review must be completed before sales open.
